Procedure

  • Lower eyelid bags make you look older and fatigued. This may cause by genetics, variations in anatomy, excess sun exposure, aging or herniation of orbital fat. Lower blepharoplasty can bring you back to youthful look.

2 techniques for Lower Eyelid Surgery:

  • Transcutaneous Approach: The incision will be made just below the lower lash line. Excess skin in the lower eyelid is removed through this incision. A well placed incision can be virtually invisible when fully healed. This approach can benefit those who have sagging skin and the orbicularis oculi muscle (the muscle which supports the eyelid).

  • Transconjunctival Approach: The incision is made inside the lower eyelid, and excess fatty material is removed. The benefit of this approach is the incision will not be visible, even a close up eye exam will not reveal signs of surgery. The shape of the eye is typically better preserved as the orbicularis oculi muscle is fully preserved.

Preoperative
  • Stop smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages two weeks before and after surgery for healing the wound faster.
  • Abstain from aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E and supplements two weeks before surgery to prevent the severe bleeding.
  • Notify any medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. including any usage of a drug or dietary supplements.
Recovery
  • Apply cold compress 5 times a day, 15 minutes each time in the first 3 days after surgery.
  • The swelling will be on day 1 to day 4 and will be gradually improved every day.
  • Keep the wound dry for 2 days, the normal facial wash can be done afterward
  • Using a soft cloth to clean the wound area.
  • Do not rub the wound.
  • After cleaning the surface, apply lubricant ointment.
  • Lie down with the head raised higher than your chest, the swelling will subside faster.
  • Avoid watching a TV, read a book prolonged for 3 days after surgery.
  • Taking painkillers medication if you feel any pain.
