STOP smoking two weeks before surgery. You will need another two weeks after surgery to start smoking. Smoking increases the risks of complications.
The day before your surgery, do not drink alcohol and make sure you do not eat or drink anything at least six hours before your procedure.
Recovery

Apply cold compress to the area for 48 hours (swelling subsides 48-72 hours).
Sleep on 2 pillows or keep head elevated so as not to aggravate swelling.
It will hurt to open your mouth so you will be on a soft diet for a few days.
Avoid aerobic exercises or any contact sports 2 weeks post-surgery.
Follow-up with the doctor and stitch removal will be 7 days after surgery.
Normal activities may be resumed the following week.
